Homemade Pepper Simple Syrup

Looking for a way to add a kick to your cocktails? Pepper simple syrup is a versatile ingredient that can elevate your drinks from good to unforgettable. This easy-to-make syrup blends the sweet smoothness of simple syrup with the spicy undertones of pepper, perfect for those who enjoy a bit of heat. Here’s how to make it:


250 g / 1 cup Sugar

2.5 dl / 1 cup Water

1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper (adjust to taste)


Step 1

In a small saucepan, mix water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar fully dissolves.

Step 2

Add the freshly ground black pepper to the saucepan. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat. Ensure the liquid does not come to a boil.

Step 3

Let the syrup cool to room temperature. Strain it through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the pepper particles, ensuring a smooth syrup. Coffee filters do a great job here, too.


Pour the Simple Syrup into a sealable bottle or glass and store it in the refrigerator. The shelf life can vary, but typically it lasts for a couple of days. As long as it's clear without any cloudiness, it should be good.
